Sustainable Products

Sustainability plays a crucial role, especially in the packaging industry.

That's why SOKUFOL is committed to actively contributing to sustainability and improving the circular economy by focusing on resource-efficient and recyclable films.

SOKUFOL offers a wide range of recyclable packaging and biodegradable films for various applications.

Recyclable foil made from recycled materials

Recyclate is essentially a recovered raw material used for new plastic products. By using recyclable foils, we can reduce the need to produce plastic from virgin crude oil.

Recyclate is produced when old plastic is recycled in such a way that it can be transformed into new, high-quality packaging. Through high-grade recycling, old plastic becomes the raw material for new products, saving resources and protecting the environment.

Sustainable bags made from recycled material are eco-friendly, resource-efficient, and sustainable.

Products made from recyclate:

  • Flat bags made from recyclate
  • Adhesive closure bags made from recyclate
  • Adhesive closure bags made from COEX-foil recyclate

PCR and PIR

The prefix of the recyclate indicates the original source of the material, which was processed into recyclate after being discarded:

  • Post-Industrial Recyclate (PIR): These are waste materials from production leftovers during the manufacturing of plastic packaging or other plastic products that were not reused in the same process.
  • Post-Consumer Recyclate (PCR): This is plastic made from waste generated by consumers. It refers to waste produced by the end customer.

Biodegradable Foil

Biodegradable with water-soluble PVOH foil

Our water-soluble foils are made from PVOH (polyvinyl alcohol).

Once dissolved in water, PVOH foil is biodegradable. It has been proven that polyvinyl alcohol is broken down by a variety of microorganisms. Water-soluble foils are versatile, practical, and environmentally friendly. The foil is available in cold, warm, and hot water-soluble versions.

Products made from water soluble film

Made from renewable resources

Cellophane Foil – Eco-friendly and Compostable

Cellophane, also known as cellulose film, is made from renewable resources rather than fossil-based materials. The foil is compostable and can also be added to paper recycling, as it is made from cellulose fibers.

Cellophane is oxygen- and water-vapor permeable but offers excellent aroma retention. This prevents condensation from forming inside the packaging. The foil is easy to print on, crystal clear, and antistatic.

Advantages of cellophane bags

  • Biodegradable
  • Food safe
  • Odorless and tasteless
  • Plastic-free, BPA-free

Products made from cellophane:

PBAT Foil

PBAT (Butylene Adipate-Co-Terephthalate) is a thermoplastic, biodegradable plastic.

Advantages:

  • Polymer is 100% petroleum-based
  • Typically processed with starch, making it non-transparent
  • PBAT is home compostable; microorganisms in soil break down the polymer
  • Easily weldable with excellent seam strength
  • Thermal resistance similar to standard plastics (LDPE, HDPE)
  • Safe for use with food products

PLA Foil

PLA (polylactic acid), also known as polylactide, is made from renewable resources instead of fossil-based materials and is compostable according to DIN EN 13432. This makes it one of the bioplastics. PLA stands for Polylactic Acid, and is commonly referred to as polylactide or polymilchsäure in German.

Advantages:

  • Composed of approximately 80% renewable resources
  • Highly transparent (similar to PP)
  • Easily weldable when a sealing layer is present
  • Food-safe
